Salinas, Monterey County
Cool ocean air flows up the Salinas Valley from Monterey Bay, and that climate lets farmers grow lettuce, broccoli, strawberries and other crops most of the year. Salinas is the packing and shipping center for all of it and has long been called the Salad Bowl of the World. Fields begin where the city streets end.
